Cologne by night

Still the only one night scene that I captured so far with my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T7. I like this photo and hope you all do like too ;o) We were in our evening walks down town.We like sometimes to make window shopping in a quiet evening like this one after dinner at home or when we dinning out. This is one of Cologne's shopping street and only for pedestrian and not the one I've posted with the street musician. How about your evening?

It looks like a peaceful scene with no gangs loitering and no danger from robbers. I like to remember that America had scenes like this once upon a time but nowadays, most people know better than to risk a trip downtown. It would be like being thrown into the ampitheatre filled with lions. In spite of what you might read, the streets of the cities around where I live is a dangerous place for people to go at night. And bad enough in the daylight.

I like your photograph because it shows me what it used to be like here.

Yes, our Hohe Straße, leading from the Cathedral to the big department stores. No problem for us Cologners in the evening. The danger at daytime are the pickpockets ;-)

A nice looking High Street. We also have Media Markt here in Poland! Greetings from Toruń DP...thanks for visiting us!

Nice photo! I wouldn't be able to resist a trip into the Media Markt, but being a prude, I could do without *that* shop on the left hand side. Interestingly, I just looked up the name on Wikipedia, and I must say, I didn't know that there was a real person and that she was a stunt pilot and stuff.

Back to add: your Pegel must be reading a much higher level now!

Are shops open on Sunday in Germany? In Sydney shopping centres are open from 10 am to 4 pm and lots of people enjoy shopping for clothes on Sundays.

I am shocked by Abraham's comment about how unsafe the streets are near where he lives! none of that here.

I thought all shops were closed from Saturday 2pm to Monday in Germany but my informations must be wrong!
My evening was a nice and long one: we went to a birthday party with about 50 guests and came back at about 3.30 am...so today i'm late for everything!

4 Dina,I do my groceries shopping not in regular schedule as you can see from the theme day.The sign 'PENNY' is the groceries store.I just cross the street whenever I couldn't find what i need in my refri :o)

4 Martel,I just rised up my both hands and hold my breath and stand very still to took this photo,so my camera tripod is me ;o)

4 Z,same like me I couldn't resist to electronic store or kind of Media Markt...I'm a technology freak ;o)

4 Natalie,on Sunday all over Germany the shops, supermarkets, shopping centres are close and during the week shopping centres are open from 10am to 8pm but groceries shops are most open from 8am to 8pm and some could be until 9 pm or 10 pm. e.g the one in front of where I live is open from 7am to 10pm

Love this shot. All those wonderful colors. My camera doesn't take good-night time photos. I miss my Nikon N-90 to do things like that. I sold it because I figured I didn't need all those fancy shots, but now I wish I had it back. Argh!

Looks like a lovely and lively place to shop or just to stroll.

This is such good photography. I find difficulty with night photography - still learning.

Thanks for commenting on Monte Carlo. That hotel used to be called the Vistaero, when it a part of the 'Great Hotels of the World' Group - not sure if it's in that or not now, but it's still a pretty swank hotel.

Nice photo, Beetle.

I have to disagree with Mr Lincoln. It is incorrect to say that the USA does not have scenes like this nowadays. Not true.

The USA is a huge country and you just can't make statements like that. Small-town America is very different from big-city America.

After dinner, we too go out for a walk every night; it helps us stay fit, but we mostly do it for the pleasure of experiencing the city at night.

We have traveled around this country (the USA) and never, at least not in the cities we've been to, not even once have we felt in danger when walking at night.

A very bad habit Americans have is to make blanket statements about their country.

In my experience, in Boston, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC, Denver, Pittsburgh, and the list goes on, you can take long and safe walks at night.

Well you're a very good tripod-man. Then I see (and I'm happy) you said shops are open 'til 8pm. When I visited Germany long time ago shops were unfortunately closing at 6pm. :-)

We just returned from Paris and London, and the busy streets like this shot were fun at first, but by the end of the week, I was ready to get back to "quiet" parker.

Nice shot!
